Rabindranath Tagore, the eminent Indian poet, philosopher, and Nobel laureate, offered a nuanced perspective on nationalism in his collection of essays titled “Nationalism.” Published in 1917 during a critical period in India’s struggle for independence, Tagore’s work challenges the prevailing notions of blind patriotism and warns against the dangers of a narrow, exclusionary form of nationalism.
